Back in Atlanta

So, I flew back to atlanta and arrived Friday morning at 6 a.m. I will miss Hawaii and all of the people that I met. My last night there I stayed up until 4 in the morning with some other volunteers and we played music and watched a movie and then one of the guys read our futures with tara cards (hope I am not misspelling that). Overall it was a good experience for me, it was inspirational for me to be around so much creativity and such interesting people. Now that I am back I know that I need to incorporate more of hawaii into my life here which may mean finding something more creative to do with my life and something that makes me live more passionately. In Hawaii I got back in touch with some of my laughter, and aliveness that I have missed for a long time. I tried so many new things that I have never done before. So, I am curious to see what path I take next. Anyways, in the realm of raw foods, since this is a raw food journal afterall, last night I made a wonderful strawberry vinegarette dressing and am going to have it with a salad for lunch today. I also experimented with making some flax crackers. The only problem is that I used wax paper and it melted into the crackers and I am not able to separate the paper from the crackers. However, the little bit that I did separate tasted excellent. So, if I can figure out how to keep it from melting into the cracker I will have a tasty treat on my hands. One thing I am thinking about starting to do in the near future is video tape myself making recipes and then posting it on the blog. My brother just got a video camera and he said that he would film me so I am going to try and make that happen soon! Thanks to everyone who has been reading my blog. Oh, by the way I wanted to say thank you to Dhru from We like it raw and give it to me raw! He was reading my blog and read one of my posts where I was feeling down and confused and he called me this past friday and left the nicest and most encouraging message on my phone!! He is such an awesome and caring person! I miss my raw friends I made in New York but hope to encourage the growth of a raw community in Atlanta! Well, that is all for now!

  1. For your crackers, try parchment paper in place of wax paper. It won't melt, though it may shrivel a bit if your batter is really wet.

Keep your island experience with you every day!Sounds like you learned a bit about yourself there.

  3. Awesome, good to hear that you were able to learn and grow, and.. probably got a nice tan. ;-) After all that's what life is all about, learning, growing and evolving. Were you able to try any of the fruits I recommended? If so, how were they?

  4. Thanks everyone for the parchment paper! That makes a BIG difference indeed :-). Actually, after reading an e-mail from shannonmarie that was sent months ago she said to use parcment paper as well. Anyways, I made incredibly good flax crackers and they are just now in the dehydrator to get more crispy for a few more hours before I devour them, however, I will take pictures before eating them all. At least I will try. Anyhow, Michael, thanks for your comments as well and I did get to try sour soup which was really good but that was the only different fruit I ended up trying. Thanks though!

  5. I just found your blog. I, too, live in ATL and am only in the contemplation stage of a raw food diet. I look forward to checking back to read more.
