Travel Tips While Eating Raw

I did quite a bit of traveling this summer first to Montreal, next Seattle and finally to Maui. The trip to Montreal was a road trip and of course Seattle and then Maui were airplane trips. I have compiled a list of tips for traveling raw and eating healthy! When traveling we are often outside of our comfort zone in terms of food. We don't have our go to places and may get stuck in situations where we are starving and end up eating junk we wish we hadn't! These tips were created to prepare you so you don't get stuck in those situations!
1. Do your research! Whenever I am traveling to a new place I do my research. I go online first of all to see if there are any raw restaurants in the city I am going that I want to check out. Next, I look online to see if there are any health food stores close by to where I will be staying. If I find one or both of these I will usually map quest direction from the restaurant to the destination I will be staying.

2. Road Trips! My trip from Atlanta to Montreal was a 2,000 mile road trip. For this trip I brought tons of my fruits and veggies with me. I cut up fruit so it was easy to snack on and not too messy. It is also a good idea to bring some dehydrated goodies such as flax crackers to munch on with guacamole. I chopped up and washed celery so I could easily munch on this as well. I brought more than I thought was enough so I would not run out.

3. Airplane Food! One week after I got back from my trip to Montreal I left for Seattle (stayed 2 days) and then flew to Maui. I knew that I was not going to come close to eating airplane food so I came prepared. I chopped up watermelon, cut up and washed celery, brought dried fruit, made guacamole, and flax crackers. I have always been allowed to bring food on a plane with me. I just fill my carry on bag with my food and I have never gotten questions. On the plane ride when people are served their packaged airplane food I bring out my colorful selection of treats. When I was flying back from Maui to Atlanta I brought a raw veggie wrap (made at a health food store in Maui) this was delicious by the way, 2 Lara bars and some raw chocolate. Again, when others were served their airplane snacks and food I was easily able to decline and eat my tasty, nutritious meal and snacks! The above picture is my raw veggie wrap (from Mana health food store) and my Lara bar.

I hope you found these tips helpful! Sometimes taking the steps to plan ahead can help keep you on your healthful path!

p.s. Congratulations to everyone who won an e-book in my last giveaway! This Thursday is my last giveaway for the month and I will only be giving away one ebook!

  1. That's such a cute wrap. What was the bread part made out of?

  3. Great tips. I always bring plenty of food on the plane. Some people are under the impression it's not allowed, but it is. You just can't bring whole jars of nut butter and stuff like that.

There are even phone apps to help one find restaurants and health food stores. It's so much easier to travel these days!
